Notes From This Episode:

Background

  • The beginning of a new school year often feels more like a New Year than January 1st, so maybe now would be a good time to set some new resolutions.
  • Does this time of year bring new opportunities and a new optimism in your day?  If you think “yes”, you are ready and open to new possibilities, and that can move you closer to the woman in life you really want to be.

How to Create Resolutions

  • It is a good idea to complete a thought download on all the goals or resolutions you would like to achieve or implement.  Put it all down on paper.
  • When you have created your list, choose one of those resolutions to work on, and once you have mastered that one (and it may take you five days or five weeks), then refer back to your list and choose another resolution.

Resolution Ideas Related to Our Husbands

  • You can examine your relationship with your husband.
    • How is your communication with your husband?  Can you be more intentional with communicating with him?
    • Can you choose to listen more than you talk?  Ask him questions about his day and really stop and listen.
    • Maybe you can eliminate complaining.
  • Another resolution idea can be in regards to intimacy with your husband, specifically to hug and kiss him more often.

Resolution Ideas Related to Our Children

  • You could evaluate the way you interact with your children.  Could you have a new resolution to be more consistent in your parenting?
  • Maybe you can have a new resolution that you get up on time so that you are ready to greet your children with a smile.
  • A new resolution could be to have a clear, simple morning routine so your children feel connected to you, or a simple after school routine that is calm and provides a time to really listen to what happened to your children’s day.

Resolution Ideas Related to Home Management

  • This is a great opportunity to make a new resolution about your home management.
    • Give yourself some time to really think about what works and what doesn’t and how you can keep a home clean in about 20 minutes a day, while also getting laundry done and teaching your children responsibility for chores.
  • Could your new year’s resolution be to commit to doing laundry every day?  Or real meal planning and batch cooking?

Resolution Ideas Related to Our Growth

  • This is also a great time to step back and decide if you are the woman you really want to be.
  • Do you want to be more peaceful and mindful in your day?  If yes, then make a resolution to pray for 15 minutes every day and say a Rosary.
  • Could you walk every day?
  • If you want to feel better instantly as a woman, make the resolution to get up, shower, do your hair, and apply a little makeup and dress well.
    • This could be a great resolution that has a domino effect on everything else you do in your life.

Final Thoughts

  • This New Year feeling is an opportunity to up-level your life, to work more on who you really want to be and the kind of home and family life you want.
  • Remember, this will not happen overnight.  It will require commitment, change, and discomfort.
  • Choose one resolution to work on and master.  Commit to one day at a time, and if you miss a day, do not throw everything out the window – begin the next day.
  • Once you have mastered that resolution, begin a new one.
